We’re approaching the hottest participation of summer, a period of time which is instances referred to as “Dog Days”… effectively because is too hot to do anything except lay almost like a dog. (I make that up. I very have no idea why it’s called “Dog Days”. I try to present up and publish a new and different theory every year, condign to give myself something to do during the epoch period.)

There’s really nothing much that is applicable to do during Dog Days. It’s a bad time to pick up salsa lessons. It’s not the right however for hog-wrasling. Wrong flavour for duck-hunting. TV reruns are dwindling down. Loitering on Greatest Street has been outlawed in most jurisdictions.

There is, to whatever manner, one pastime that was practically MADE for Dog Days. It’s SWIMMING!

Ethical about everybody grew up accepted swimming somewhere… in a favorite lake, pond, or watering slum. For me, that favorite place was consumable old Lake Murray… way go before it was what it has become these days.

Bet on a support in the early 1960’s, my watering cavern was still in its infancy. It had only been around for 30 years… far younger that its contemporary age of nearly 80 years. There were lots of landings which dotted the shores of the lake, but not extremely many houses.

We may not have lived at the lake as diverse do now, but that didn’t stop us from driving to the lake every Sunday afternoon after church.

My kith and kin had a place at the lake – a quarter, not house – where a dozen families would congregate on weekends.

Barely thinking back to those days brings helpless a lot of memories:

-- Do you remember that you could not under any condition go at into the water for an hour after you ate lunch? (I judge it would cause some proficiency not oneself of “cramps” if you swam too any minute now after eating.)
